The Village Journal
The Village Journal — our free local monthly newsletter. www.villagejournal.org.au In February 1987 the Village Journal commenced publication as a monthly newsletter circulated to the Rosebank Community. Its founding editor was Ian Horsefield of Fox Road, who had his own Arab Platen printing press. Ian also hand-set his type. The VJ as it is affectionately known is a free publication that has all the up to date issues that concern Rosebank and its neighbouring Villages. Its a great read and now has its own website. Ian’s dream was to create a community newspaper and his dream is still a reality today. Sadly Ian died in 2011 but he saw his newsletter’s distribution grow to a 1700 readership. In Dec 2011 the VJ published its 271st edition — A great little community mag.
Rosebank Community Inc (RCI)
RCI as it is affectionately known was formed in 1998 by interested community members who wanted to form a community umbrella group. The Village Journal, our local newsletter was the first to take up RCI’s offer, followed by Rosebank & Fox Road Landcare and even The Channon’s Kids Club joined in for a while. As a charitable not for profit group RCI and their project teams could apply for funding to run such events as children’s workshops & camps which were held during school holidays. RCI also provided outings for rural kids at heavily discounted prices and these were very successful attracting over 200 children at some of the outings. The Landcare groups attracted funding for 1000’s of native trees and today many of these trees have matured and provide habitat and a more secure future for Rosebank’s wildlife. The VJ publishes the dates when RCI holds its meetings.
